Trick or Treat Dragon
by Nan Whybark
The doorbell is ringing.
I fling open the door
With a bowl full of treats,
Which I drop on the floor!
For there is a dragon
Roaring out, “Trick or treat!”
Instead of some children.
Looking timid and sweet.
He’s wickedly grinning.
His tongue is flickering.
He gulps down the candy
Still smiling and snickering.
Unfolding great wings,
He steps back a pace
And takes off to the east,
Soaring high into space.
But I hear him roar out
As he flies from the scene,
“Thanks so much for the treats,
“And Happy Halloween!”
My heart is still thumping
As he shadows the moon.
A trick or treat dragon?
Hope he's not back soon!
